New Puppy Parent FAQs

At Blooming Puppies, nutrition is extremely important to us. Our puppies are raised on Purina Pro Plan Puppy (Large Breed or Small Breed, depending on puppy size) — a veterinarian-recommended food that supports:

  • Healthy growth
  • Brain development (DHA)
  • Strong immune systems
  • Gentle digestion

Treats should be given sparingly in the beginning. Puppies often have sensitive stomachs, especially Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles.

Choose treats with simple ingredients, such as:

  • Single-ingredient chicken or beef
  • Dehydrated sweet potato

We suggest keeping it simple at first:

  • One fetch toy
  • One tug toy
  • One squeaky toy
  • One puppy-safe chew (such as bully sticks or natural chews)

This variety supports teething, play, and mental stimulation.

Please bring:

  • Adjustable collar (8”–14”) and standard leash
  • 15–20 ft training lead (very helpful for early training)
  • Towel or crate pad (some puppies experience mild car sickness)
  • Water dish if traveling longer than 5 hours

We recommend feeding your puppy once you arrive home rather than during travel.

We welcome scheduled visits after week 6 to meet our puppies and see our facilities.

Yes. We prefer harnesses for puppies to avoid unnecessary pressure on the neck.

We recommend the Rabbitgoo No-Pull Puppy Harness because it is adjustable, soft, breathable, and easy to use.

(We are not affiliated — this is simply a product we trust.)

Before pickup day, we recommend puppy-proofing your home and setting up:

  • A crate in a quiet area
  • Food and water bowls
  • A few safe toys
  • A consistent potty routine

A calm, structured environment helps puppies adjust more quickly.

Our Golden Retriever and Goldendoodle puppies go home between 8–9 weeks of age or older. At this stage, puppies are eating independently, socially confident, and ready to transition into their new families.

Yes, all puppies are raised in a family environment and receive early socialization. We believe puppies are raised believing in themselves and be best they can be though guiding emotional responses, meeting their innate needs in order, building confidence though intentional and purposeful curriculum and handing that aligns to their sensitive developmental benchmarks and lastly evaluating each puppy prior to placement to ensure their voice is heard and they are honored and respected not only with their breeder but with their new human as well.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and secure online payments.

Crate training helps puppies feel safe and supports potty training.

We introduce crate training around week 4, please continue to do so when you take them home with you even if you are not planning on having your puppy in a crate.

Tips for success:

  • Place the crate in a quiet, low-traffic area
  • Keep the crate cozy with a soft pad or blanket
  • Never use the crate as punishment
  • Start with short periods and gradually increase time
